    Eric Alfaro, b. 1991

    Cuba

Eric Alfaro had a passion for art from a young age, he recalls visiting museums with his parents as a boy, these trips captured his imagination and had a lasting influence. Alfaro proceeded to graduate from art school in Cuba and move to the United States to pursue his career as a full-time artist.

His distinctive canvases are bursting with bold and expressive brushstrokes, results in mesmerizing works filled with dimensionality and movement. Alfaro is inspired by the French Impressionist movement; this is visible through his masterful play with light and his use of thickly applied paint known as ‘impasto’. These techniques combined with his chosen subject matter his gestural technique showcasing the beauty of nature produce a unique sense of tranquility and peacefulness to his work.

Alfaro states ‘Flowers have always been present in my work in one way or another, along with a certain influence from Asian iconography and art’. He is particularly drawn to the beauty of Japanese cherry blossoms ‘I found the cherry blossom in particular very poetic and interesting because it marks the beginning of spring and has a very ephemeral rebirth each year, since it is a very short-lived flower, it reminds us how momentary life can be’.

Alfaro’s characteristic style showcases visible brushstrokes, minimal blending of paint, and his ability to capture movement within his subjects. By smudging fresh paint horizontally across the canvas, Alfaro creates the impression of time passing before the viewer’s eyes, adding a sense of transience to his work. Alfaro continues to push the boundaries of his artistic practice, evolving and exploring new mediums and techniques, in recent years Alfaro has taken his work towards public art, developing several large murals in the city of Miami, USA.

Alfaro’s paintings have been exhibited and collected internationally in both private and institutional collections notably MOCANOMI (Museum of Contemporary Art of North Miami). His artworks have also been published in several magazine globally such as Artists & Illustrators Magazine, UK.
