Ria de Henau, b.1954
Belgium
Ria de Henau has a great deal of experience in a variety of artistic disciplines both in the visual arts and music. While studying visual arts, Ria did an in-depth study of the old masters. As she became increasingly attuned to the way the old masters worked, she came to the surprising conclusion that a powerful work of art depends on far more than simply an artist’s exceptional painting technique.
Ria’s highly sensitive nature gives her a truly profound feeling for the subjects she focuses on. Despite the hurried times we live in, the artist takes time to build up a painting step by step, inspired by the traditions found in the work of old masters which were almost lost. Her fascination for the old masters enabled her to find a way of expressing this intense experience of “feeling’ and to give shape to it in an intense wealth of color and vibrating light that is characteristic of her work.
Ria opts to paint handsome everyday objects that we are constantly passing by without a thought. By magnifying the object, she invites the viewer to look more attentively at the magic and beauty of our everyday surroundings.
Ria’s works are a part of private collections in many parts of the world including Netherlands, France, Hong Kong, Italy, Germany, Russia, USA, UK, Indonesia and Singapore. Ria currently lives and works in Belgium.
