Chris Williamson

Chris Williamson is a British/Australian artist based in Margaret River, known for a large body of work that explores memory, childhood, family, and community.

Williamson trained at Sheffield and Leeds Colleges of Art before working in advertising and educational design in the UK. After a thirty-five-year career, he has concentrated solely on his personal art practice since 2009.

His sculptural work transforms every day, discarded materials into intricate, thought-provoking assemblages, encouraging viewers to engage with objects, considering their histories, functions and the meanings they accumulate over time. Alongside this, Williamson produces intricately detailed line and wash drawings of nostalgic architectural subjects that illuminate long-forgotten memories, capturing a lived-in sense of time in which past and present sit within the same frame.

Williamson is represented in the Permanent Collections of Bunbury and Busselton, as well as numerous private collections in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and the UK.
