Ukrainian artist Ira Volkova is well-known for her hyper-realistic yet ethereal paintings of flowers, in particular, pink peonies. With over twenty years of creative experience, Volkova seamlessly creates astonishing large-scale oil paintings.
"I’m inspired by nature in its endless variety. I love using large format canvases, they allow people to see so much more than normal. On my canvases there is a whole microcosm of petals!"
During the Covid pandemic Volkova took up running as a hobby. She now enjoys running through the Botanic Gardens for inspiration, it is here she allows herself time to take in the beauty of nature and her surroundings.

Delicate Technique
Utilising a combination of acrylic and oil paint, Volkova paints in thin layers with great precision and attention to detail. She is inspired by the 17th Century Flemish painters that painted with astounding delicacy and technique.
The final result are beautiful compositions that are able to capture the natural beauty of her flower studies.

To achieve vibrant and accurate colours, Volkova uses an acrylic underpainting before applying oil on top.
